National Minimum Wage to increase from 1 October 2014

With effect from Wednesday 1 October 2014 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) will increase as follows:- Aged 19 and under or 19 and over who are in the first year of an apprenticeship - £2.73Aged 16 to 17 who are above school leaving age but under 18 - £3.79 per hourAged 18 to 20 £5.13Aged 21 and over £6.50

Additionally the accommodation offset rate will increase to £5.08 per day. This effectively increases the income for those under 21 by 2% and over 21 by 3%, while the accommodation offset rate increases by 3.46%. Equal Pay Audits Under the Equality Act 2010 Regulations 2014, an Employment Tribunal will be required to order an equal pay audit where it finds that an employer is in breach of equal pay legislation, with exemption periods being granted for new and micro businesses until 1 October 2014, or the point where the business ceases to meet the definitions of these types of businesses within the regulations, whichever is sooner.
